A person's sofa is basic for essential comfort. Either you have just returned from work or you are organizing a party with many guests. It is always good to relax on a clean sofa. To keep your sofa bright, follow these basic cleaning techniques. These are some of the best tips that should be taken to clean the sofa.

Sofa material

The first thing you should do before you start cleaning your sofa is to identify the material that can be from linen to leather. The material will be shown on the label, using the following signs, which show you the various ways in which you can or cannot clean your sofa.

W: This means you can wash the sofa with water.
X: you can only use a vacuum cleaner
SW: you can use water or cleaning solvent if you prefer.
S: The sofa can only be cleaned with a solvent cleaner.

Clean surface

Once you have identified the fabric, remove the cushions and properly brush the corners and cracks to remove any crumbs and debris that may be trapped there. You can also use a white towel to rub spots as that will help break them. However, avoid using coloured clothes or sponges since the color can sometimes be transferred to the sofa.

Eliminate odours

Once you have removed the crumbs and loosened the stains, the next step is to eliminate unpleasant odours. Baking soda is a great economic solution for this. Simply spray the sofa with baking soda and let it sit for at least 20 minutes and then vacuum the sofa with a brush. If you think this is not enough, mix the baking soda with a dry carpet cleaner and let it sit for another 20 minutes, which should leave your couch fresh and looking new.

Spot management

The best and cheapest way to manage spots on your sofa is to make your own cleaning solution. Simply mix a teaspoon of liquid detergent, white vinegar, baking soda and hot water, baking soda and vinegar work very well together, eliminates stubborn stains quite quickly. Just make sure you try the solution on a hidden piece of the fabric to make sure it does not discolour your sofa.

Leather sofas

The cleaning of leather sofas is different from the fabric, but you should always check the care label before trying to clean the sofa yourself. Once you have verified the labels, be sure to clean the sofa first, so as not to press dirt more on the leather when cleaning it. The next step will be to vacuum the sofa with a soft brush configuration and make sure be as smooth as possible, so as not to scratch the leather. After vacuuming, check for spots or stains on the sofa and concentrate on cleaning them with a cloth. Slightly damp cloth, that's all the leather normally needs. If your sofa has persistent spots, rub them lightly with a mild soap without using too much water.
