Best tips to deodorize the sofa

Sofas attract the odors of pets, spills and daily use. Odours can be serious or manifest as a slightly unpleasant musty odor. The fabric sofa upholstery is more prone to odor absorption since it is more permeable than leather and vinyl. The upholstery does not usually require deep sofa cleaning if it is otherwise unsoiled. Deodorization is a simple process that involves first absorbing the odor and then discarding it before the tissue can reabsorb it. Depending on the cause and severity, it may take more than one sofa cleaning to completely eliminate the odor.

Upholstered Sofas

1. Vacuum the couch with an upholstery brush on a vacuum cleaner. Remove all dust, hair, and debris. Remove the cushions, if possible, and vacuum on both sides.

2. Sprinkle baking soda on the padded areas of the sofa. Evacuate seat and back cushions and put them aside. Sprinkle the sofa fabric of cushions and cushions with the soda. Use a required baking soda and apply slightly visible silt on the entire sofa.

3. Apply the baking soda on the sofa then leave minimum 15 minutes, or overnight for few odors. The soda swallow odors from the fabric and cushions.

4. Vacuum the couch a second time to remove any residual baking soda. Use a clean bag or empty the empty container first, as the baking soda will fill it quickly.

Leather Sofas

1. Wipe up any spills that may cause a bad odor immediately with a damp cloth. Dry wipe.

2. Mix a teaspoon of neutral liquid soap, such as Castile or saddle soap, with 1 cup of hot water. Wipe the sofa with soapy water. Wipe only the smelly area or clean the entire couch if necessary, wiping only a small area at a time.

3. Use a cloth soaked in clean water to wipe away any soap residue. Wipe immediately with a soft, dry cloth.

4. Apply an enzymatic leather cleaner if odor persists. Follow the package instructions for proper use of the particular brand. Generally, these products are sprayed on the leather and allowed to dry. Enzymes destroy the odor-causing bacteria.

Clean spills on the upholstery immediately. Food can leave behind rotten odors, while even water can create a musty smell. Use a clean towel at sofa cleaning to absorb as much liquid from the couch as possible. Some sofa cushions are machine washable, which can help eliminate deep odors. Refer to the care label on the cushions or under the couch for washing instructions specific to your sofa.

Test the sofa cleaning methods on a hidden surface of upholstered or leather sofas to make sure water or cleaners do not damage the furniture.
